Subject: Braces on!

Yesterday was the day! Got my top arch banded and braced with metal brackets. Also had a cavity filled on a lower molar at the same time. I should get spacers for the bottom arch at my first adjustment in September. The bands went on easy, probably because I'd had spacers in for three weeks (I'm amazed none of them fell out). The glue was nasty tasting as expected, but the taste didn't last long. It's day two and I haven't gotten the kicked-in-the-teeth feeling yet, but biting down on anything is a big no-no and I'll be on soft foods for a while I'm sure.

I dediced to start with basic gray ligs for now, but expect to get more colorful in the future. I'm surprisingly non-self-conscious about the look, and there's no difficulty speaking. Good thing, because later that same day I had to speak at a homeowners association meeting for my job and answer a lot of questions, and today wound up teaching a yoga class!

I'm very happy to finally join the multitude of other July new-bracers here (I went back through old posts this month and counted at least 19 of us). I started my own braces progress pics site -- it's at www.geocities.com/garizona/braces if anyone's curious.
