It was that time again to renew my licence and I was truly thinking about what luck I had having braces for my driver's license photo. Isn't some unwritten law of the universe that everyone looks "not their best" for those photos taken at the DMV without the help of having braces and "older than teenage age"? I was laughing at myself.. in a very self-depricating way as I was getting my makeup and hair done that morning thinking... hey.. "here's one for the yearbook!" I went in and got a number. (BTW How did I get the number 53 and I was probably the 8th person there right when it opened?) I just filled out whatever little piece of paper I needed to fill out... filed from one line to the next and soon it was time for the wonder photo that I would have to look at for the next 8 long years and I smiled by best smile.. and just let all my braces show. CHEESE! I figured it would look more like a mug shot if I tried to conseal all the braces with my lips tightly pursed.. or worse It might looked like a cat holding a mouse tightly in its jaws! After just a few short minutes the DMV guy called my name and slipped me my new ID.. and when I looked at it I was Stunned by what I saw. What I saw was a beautifully straightened smile. All little pearly white teeth in a row and the clear brackets and wires not at all noticeable. (Thank goodness for DMV poor quality digital cameras>!) I was so tickled with my straight teeth that I looked at it a couple of times and grined! YEAH! What I figured would be bad ended up being Great and pretty encouraging. I actually left the DMV with a great big braces smile on my face.
