I did metal braces at 44. I was offered ceramic but was (and still am) of the opinion that metal look like braces, ceramic look like "what's stuck on his teeth". Just a personal opinion, others feel otherwise.

I am a company executive who travels extensively and meets a lot of people. At the time I had a relatively high profile in a number of organisations.

Metal braces had no effect on me whatsoever .. other than straightening my teeth. I guess attitude has a lot to do with it but I was determined that I would not let them affect anything I did, and so it was.

The visibility of them, to me and to those I came in contact with, was a total non-event.

Hey, I have braces .. big deal!

If you are comfortable with metal, go for it.
