Monica, you sound like you've got the same problem I had!!
I to had a large overjet (8mm) with an open bite. I was also given the choice of 4 teeth extracted or surgery, I couldn't face the idea of surgery so went for the teeth option.

I've been having treatment now for nearly 18 months, my overjet has gone completely as has my open bite. I used to be really concious of my overbite but now you can't notice that my jaw is too far back as I'm now able to close my lips together without trying to force them!!

I'm totally amazed at how the shape of my face and profile have changed, I never thought that braces could make such a difference.

I have got some recent photos which I keep meaning to send Lynn, I'll get round to it eventually!!!
