I would suggest doing whatever it takes to care properly for your teeth.

When I first had braces on (ages 12-18 *sigh*) the orthodontist took my braces off right before I went to college because he knew I would never be around for appts. My teeth weren't fully corrected, but I was happy they were off. I tried to wear my retainers but, I never went for a follow-up appt.. Alas my teeth rapidly moved all over the place and here I am 9 years later with a very bad bite to correct.

Even if you can only make appt. on breaks, at least it is better than what I went through. Best of luck to you at college :)
