I wish you lived in Toronto, Cap'n Nemo - I'd offer up the # for my dentist - she's *amazing*! (so is my Ortho) I've never felt uneasy with my Dentist as she is very thorough and gentle... and no 'bull' either. She'll tell it like it is. She's the one that recommended my Ortho, who is exactly like her - I don't feel like I'm being 'taken' and they both listen to my questions and provide me with all the answers. Even when my dentist is in a hurry (and you can tell by the pile up of clients) she never shows it when she's with you - she'll do what she has to do as she treats your time as just as important as hers.

Now, that doesn't say I haven't had bad dentists in my past. There is one that I still get angry about to this day when I think about him. My childhood dentist in Montreal was wonderful, a much older gentleman who had been around for a loooong time. When I moved to Toronto, he recommended this jerk dentist as he had been a student of the Mtl one. I trusted this jerk until I got in his expensive office, hoped onto his expensive chair, and had to listen to him insult my buddy dentist from Mtl but commenting on how horrible of a job he had done to my fillings etc. He also took a strip off of me (yes he was down right harsh with me) about not taking control of my diabetes - he didn't know me well enough to judge, and you don't just start yelling (yup, yelling) at your new client (probably third visit by then). He had me in tears yet never appologized or anything to calm me down. He was SUCH a boob. I never went back.

The next one was a nice guy, but in a not-so-hot area of town.. and when his DOG wandered through the office one day I started to re-think my new dentist. He was recommended by a co-worker as we both worked nearby his office. The second time his DOG came wandering through, I had to ask.. apparently the DOG is in his office all the time!!! I didn't quite see the sanitery factor in that, and never went back.

Now, tho, I'm quite pleased with my dentist... thank the Lord!
