Honestly, this country is over-medicated as it is.
The pain is rarely debilitating. As much as it hurts, I'm sure you are still functional.
There also other consideratiions that need to be taken into account. Doctors could be held responsible for occurrences after a patient takes medication they prescribed. Many types of pain killers affect motor skills and such in a negative way. And quite frankly, most people do not need the medication.
Why should a doctor put himself (herself) and his (her) practice at risk because someone is not wanting to deal with the pain of a treatment they opted for?
A doctor also has to worry about adverse affects the patient may have, such as an allergy, to the medication. This country is so sue-happy as it is, I do not blame an orthodontist, dentist, or any type of medical doctor to be concerned about their own livelihood and be very cautious as to what they do.
I'm not even saying these are the reasons. I am not a doctor, but these are the logical conclusions I've come up with. They may be completely wrong, but it's something to consider.
I'm certainly not trying to attack you in any manner. I'm very supported of your decision and all of that, but I have doubts that the pain is so bad you cannot function properly. If it is that bad, then perhaps you should contact your orthodontist and tell him or her that you are experiencing pain that is so unbearable that it's affecting your work and perhaps he or she will prescribe you some type of medication.
>But would it kill the doctor to give one days worth of
>pain medication just in case it hurts? If you don't
>end up needing it thats great but if you do then you
>have it. I am sure at some point during the treatment
>course everyone will have so pain. I know everyone
>reacts differently to the different procedures.
