It's first use was to act as a block to prevent my upper teeth from hitting the brackets on my lower teeth - due to my overbite. It had a ledge on it (thicker by the back of my front teeth) so that my lower teeth would hit it before my upper came down too far. My Ortho did take it and tweak two of the 'arms' on it (metal pieces that go between my teeth to hold it in place) and told me that they would push on the teeth too, to assist movement. It worked quite well - just akward to get used to the first night. *drool* *slur* *drool*

I still have my overbite a bit, but now the teeth have shifted slightly and I'm usd to not hitting the brackets - I guess it was also part training device to prevent me from chomping down.
