I'm 2 weeks into my braces, as of today. I woke up sometime during that first night and thought, "well, this doesn't hurt that much (I'd spent a year prior wearing twin block appliances, which did hurt) -- and then I got up to brush my teeth. Ay carumba!
All I can tell you is, 1) ibuprofen is a good thing and 2) the pain fades before long. Mine was bad for about 4-5 days. I have no pain now except the occasional sore spot in my cheek, which I fix with dental wax. It'll be okay!
