It really depends on what other things need to be done. I had about 4.5 mm overjet with about 4 mm space between the front teeth and I am using damon (six month type) braces and for the first 3 months it was more about bring the teeth in rather than bring them togther, though it did do that.

In fact I started in Feb and I am due to be done in August but as of July 16th they are almost about to touch (maybe 0.5 mm apart??)

so if you ask your doctor or know if you have other things like ovrjet they will work on that first as you nee to take into account the space that will close up due to the teeth being more upright BEFORE any serious work is done on closing the gaps.

Hope this helps and does not get you down.

Elias
