I wouldnt recommend extracting the canine. It is the corner stone of the mouth and serves many important functions.

THere are many ways to tx a case like yours. One is 4 bicuspid ext.
Other ways are pushing the posterior teeth backwards to make room for the canine and correct the crowding.
I have actually treated cases that sound very similar to yours in 6 months by removing the first bicuspid on the side where the canine is sticking out and then bringing the canine into position.

Many options. If you post your email address I can send you a pic of a case where I did that.
