I'm somewhere in between. Everything is a big deal when you're 16, I remember that! So this person is just expressing his/her feelings in a sixteen-year-old way. The one sentence, though, that is off-putting, is the one about how he/she doesn't care about the cost because they aren't paying for it. Being the parent of a 23 year old that still comes back to ask for money, it does have a spoiled sound to it -- but what do you expect when kids don't have to work for anything, everything is just handed to them and done for them, who knows in this case, but I know an awful lot that it is the case. It's pretty hard for anybody to appreciate something they don't put energy and effort into, money-wise. Maybe he can do a bunch of extra chores at home to help assuage the cost of the braces!

We've all complained, but our perspectives are different, older, softer around the edges. And I can also see how someone would respond negatively to this post too, so see? They're both right!
