Hi Amber
I can't tell you whether it's worth it or not for you, but here's my experience. When I was 25 (15 years ago!) my teeth weren't so crooked that I thought I needed braces. But I knew they weren't my best feature, either. So I really dreaded getting my picture taken, or, as in the case of my wedding pictures, didn't show my teeth at all. (Ironically, the bride had all her top front teeth knocked out as a kid and had a very nice bridge so she was smiling a lot more than me -- kind of an omen considering the way the marriage turned out.. but I digress) Anyhow, over the years my teeth gradually got crookeder until this year I asked a dentist what could be done and she explained the long-term gum health implications of cooked roots and suggested orthodontics. So here I am getting braces at 40 for both aesthetic and health reasons. I don't regret waiting, since at 25 I didn't have the motivation, money, or dental insurance I do now, but looking back, it would have been nice to have had better teeth the past couple of decades.

I'm with Jim, 18 months sounds like a long time for just straightening a few teeth, unless there are other issues going on. Did you meet with other orthodontists? I met with two and got very different estimates on time and cost.

Good luck!
