I think that changes the situation a lot. You should've mentioned this in your first post!

I assume he'll be using an expander or something like that (I'm not an ortho, so I've no idea of all the possible ways to widen your jaw), and that's major treatment, in my opinion.

Also, is your general dentist trained in orthodontics? I would be extremely skeptical about using any dental professional for my orthodontic treatment if they've not had extensive training. That's like asking a cardiologies to transplate your liver. It's not a good idea.

I agree, it does sound like she's only in it for the money. Unfortunately, one of my orthodontists rushes, too. He usually walks away before you even have a chance to ask him questions. He was much less rushed the first time I went when I was younger, but his practice has grown significantly, into a larger office and he has a partner. Luckily, though, his partner is very nice, calm, and is usually very willing to go over things with you. Oh well. All is well.
