Good question. :) What I was told is my ortho likes to put a permanent retainer on the bottom once the teeth are perfect and he doesn't need them to move anymore (like to make room for other teeth or whatnot). It also give me time to get used to it (no big deal) and to make sure the bond is going to hold. Better for the bond to break while I still have braces. :) Ortho's have different ways of doing things. This is just what mine likes to do.

I still have a while to go yet. Still have wisdom teeth issues and bite issues. The retainer is just another piece of metal. :)
