I saw a Rottie at the Championships in 99 in Ring I or II... But in Ring three Ive only seen Shepherds and Malinois... Anything other than Shepherds and Malinois are very rare at the upper levels... I dont think that this means that other breeds CANT do Mondioring... I think that the top handlers and trainers have a preference for the Malinois. It is like when someone wants to do Ring in my club with a Non mal or GSD... The GSD's and Mals are bred specifically for Ring. If you choose not to have a Mal or GSD, you are already "working against the odds". I dont mean this in a bad way, BUT the chance of doing well with a non malinois breed are not as good as if you went with a Mal for competition. I love working other breeds of dogs other than Mals. At one time in my club we had six or seven dogs, and NO malinois... Now, we have quite a few. I heard a Rottie guy say one time that "I can either choose my breed, or choose my sport... I choose the Rottie"... Did he excel in Ring? no... Did he have fun with his Rottie? You betcha!
