Dude, I hear you. The core exercise is taught first. And actually the intitial training should be patterned, so the dog learns it. The variations come later.

I don't want to sound like a rookie popping off, but I left the CA trial thinking that some of the old pros were a bit taken aback by the difficulty and diabolical nature of the Doh exercise in MR I and II.

The entire sport makes me think about pattern, routines, and unscripted scenarios. For instance, I thought that the face attack always came before the Doh in the Brevet, and so did my dog. But the order was reversed at the trial, which screwed us up.

It is possible to fall into patterns in training, even if you are using different props and going through variations in your heeling pattern during OB, and mixing things up here and there.

I always train OB first and then protection. I do so because I think that is the way it will be done in a trial. Is that a hard and fast rule for Mondio? I don't know. Even if it is a hard and fast rule, I want to break up the routine.
