LTC Beegle:

I was very pleased to see your posting on the message board. It was an honor to serve under your Command. You have so much to share with us and I'm looking forward to seeing it all.

I was SP/4 with the 526th CC&S (E Co Troop Command)5/69 to 4/70. I was sent to Ft. Ord, Ca. for my remaining time in service. I was assigned to the SPD Holding Unit as a guard. They pinned a set of SGT stripes on me and I wore them until my ETS in 1971. I was a Track Mechanic but for some reason I always ended up pulling some kind of Guard Duty. I had a year&1/2 break in service. After trying 7 jobs that didn't work out I went back in the Army as PFC. I was assigned to the 1/58 Mech. Inf. FT Benning GA. I stood my first formation in a set of dress greens. The Brigade CO approached me looked at my ribbons and said "you've been to Vietnam why are you still a PFC?" I told him about my break in service and this was the rank they offered me upon re-enlisting. He turned to my Company Commander and said "Make this man an SP/4."

I was sent to the 3rd Armored Division in Germany. The duty was great and the rank came fairly quickly. I was an E6 within two years. I completed my overseas tour and was reassigned to the states at Ft Hood TX. I was assigned to the 1st Cav. for a short time and then reassigned to the Material Management Center. My packet was sent in for E7 but once again I decided that it was time to move on and do something else.

I went to work for the Post Office. My combined time in service is nearly 35 years. I plan to retire soon.

Welcome Home LTC. Beegle
