In my opinion, it is a toss up. I like to do recordings with the voice activation on. So, if I am doing a Q&A, the only time I should hear anything is everytime I ask a question. Any sounds, gaps, or pauses that I hear outside of my questions warrant further attention. With the digital recorders, you don't have the time that it takes for the analog recorder to start up. That is why I think I have more success with the digital. A lot of times during an investigation, I will utilize 3 different recorders. I will use 2 digital and 1 analog. This allows me to have serveral opportunities to capture sound, as well as, a chance to have one device back up another.
