Date Posted: Saturday, February 15, 08:01:50am In reply to: Sabretoothed/February 2, 2003 Chicago Times BMS 's message, ""Moneo" can be used for small purchases such as soft drinks/newspapers/subwaytickets/added/25 mill-up/ renewal" on Sunday, February 09, 04:44:20am Proven Team Schlumberger - ERG to Deliver New Integrated Fare Management System for Bordeaux ----------------------------------------------------------- - Investment of US$15 million in new system makes Bordeaux-France a flagship for efficient service in public transport - Single ticket gives travellers access to all transport options (bus, tramway, train, taxi, parking) ----------------------------------------------------------- PARIS, March 22, 2001 - Schlumberger Test & Transactions, a business segment of Schlumberger Limited [NYSE:SLB], and ERG Group [ASX:ERG] have won the contract to lead the implementation of the new automated fare collection system for the city of Bordeaux. The contract, worth over US$15 million, is the latest in a series of joint projects for Schlumberger and ERG over the last 12 months, the two companies have won similar contracts for the French cities of Grenoble, Rennes, Caen, Rouen and Orlians. ------------------------------------------------------------ The new integrated fare management system is based on contactless smart card technology, and is expected to make Bordeaux a flagship for the provision of simpler, more effective services to users of public transport. A single multi-modal ticket will give access to all transport networks - bus, tramway, train, taxi - and parking. The system is also designed to integrate e-purse facilities and will offer transport operators and legal authorities a powerful marketing tool that is highly responsive to travellers' expectations. ----------------------------------------------------------- "The Bordeaux area system we will implement, represents a major step towards a fully integrated global platform for the management of city and regional mobility. Our work with the French railways SNCF and RATP in Ile-de-France, which put ticketing technologies at the heart of urban mobility, opened the door to the new era in public transport", comments Yves Chambeau, vice president Schlumberger e-city solutions. "We are delighted that the transport authorities in Bordeaux, Grenoble, Rennes, Rouen, Orlians and Caen have also recognised our global expertise in information systems, smart card technology and systems integration." ----------------------------------------------------------- Norbert Sch|wer, Managing Director of ERG Transit Systems France, commented, "We are particularly pleased to have won this contract, which reinforces our strong position in the French market. In France, we contributed to the implementation of over 30 smart card based systems and by the end of 2002 we will have a smart card base of 550,000." ----------------------------------------------------------- Schlumberger will supply the back office servers, the automated distribution system and the contactless smart cards. ERG will supply validators, driver consoles, bus depot data transmission systems using wireless LAN, point of sale devices, the card management module and fare rules system for the back office software. Initially 150,000 contactless smart cards will be issued. These will primarily be used for season passes, while magnetic tickets will continue to be used for single tickets and '10 trip' cards. The first phase of the project will be implemented by May 2002, and the second phase completed by March 2003, when the tramway will be fully operational. ------------------------------------------------------------ Bordeaux is one of the largest cities in France, and the bus network of Greater Bordeaux is one of the largest in the country, with over 60 lines and 3,300 bus stops connecting the city with 27 neighbouring towns. Public transport operates 690 buses and transports 60 million passengers per year. To further promote public transport - and cut the number of cars in the city - the "Communauti Urbaine de Bordeaux" (population 700 000) is constructing a tramway consisting of three lines running a total length of 21 km and 45 stops. Construction started in 2000, and the tramway is expected to be fully operational by mid 2003. ------------------------------------------------------------ ### ------------------------------------------------------------ About Schlumberger ----------------------------------------------------------- Schlumberger Test & Transactions provides consulting, integration and products for smart card-based transactions; IP (Internet Protocol) network, security and wireless services; and testing and measurement of semiconductor devices. With 2000 revenue of $1.4 billion and over 8,000 employees in more than 40 countries, it is a business segment of Schlumberger Limited (NYSE: SLB), a global technology services company with 2000 revenue of $9.6 billion.
