's message, "Hong Kong's Octopus smart card/contactless/fare payments" on Wednesday, February 05, 04:18:27am http://www.utusan.com.my/utusan/content.asp?y=2003&dt=0506&pub=Utusan_Express&sec=Home_News&pg=hn_07.htm ----------------------------------------------------------- Government to proceed with standard `Touch N Go' card BUTTERWORTH May 5 - The government will go ahead with the proposed standardisation of the `Touch N Go' smartcard at all major expressways in the country by June 1. ----------------------------------------------------------- Deputy Works Minister Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin said it was supposed to have been enforced at the beginning of the year but several concessionaires had asked for a postponement for various reasons. ----------------------------------------------------------- The companies cited additional investments for equipment and time for loan repayment as reasons for the postponement, he said after witnessing a Touch N Go service contract signing between its provider, Rangkaian Segar Sdn Bhd (RSSB) and Konsortium Lebuhraya Butterworth-Kulim Sdn Bhd (KLBK) which runs the 16.6 Kilometre Butterworth-Kulim Expressway (BKE), in Seberang Jaya, here today. ----------------------------------------------------------- RSSB and KLBK were represented by their chairmen Datuk Yahya Yaacob and Tan Sri Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Yaacob respectively. ----------------------------------------------------------- This makes BKE the eighth expressway operator to offer the service besides Metramac, PLUS, Elite, Besraya, Prolintas, the Penang Bridge and the Second Link. ----------------------------------------------------------- There were 16 expressway concessionaires but only seven were using Touch N Go, he said. ----------------------------------------------------------- "The plan to enforce its use will go ahead on June 1 unless another decision is made by the minister (Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu) who is still having talks with a few other concessionaires about this," he said. ----------------------------------------------------------- Khaled said the decision was made to benefit the consumer as the card could be used for many things besides paying for the toll. ----------------------------------------------------------- Meanwhile, he said the plan to build a second Penang Bridge was still in the detailed design process and a lot more must be done before the project could take off. ----------------------------------------------------------- [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
