DoD to use Identix fingerprint technology
-----------------------------------------------------------
06/02/2003
-----------------------------------------------------------
Identix Inc. has revealed that the US Department of Defense has chosen to license the company's BioEngine fingerprint-recognition technology.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Financial terms weren't disclosed.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Shares of Minnetonka-based Identix were at $4.59 midday Tuesday on the Nasdaq Stock Market, up 49 cents, or 12 percent.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The security technology company said the department will use the license to upgrade fingerprint record files of all military and civilian personnel.
-----------------------------------------------------------
Identix said its latest version of BioEngine provides stronger matching algorithms for rapid fingerprint enrollment, verification and/or identification applications.
-----------------------------------------------------------
The company said the Defense Department has used Identix hardware and software since it began to capture automated fingerprints in 1996.
-----------------------------------------------------------
However, the company expects potential large-scale identification and national security-related programs to boost demand for its biometrics technology. Identix had $73 million in revenue in the fiscal year ended in June.
