Please dont pass this off as hippie bullshit and take the time to read it.

This is a section taken directly off te greenpeace website as i feel they describe this best about the state of renewable energy in the uk and the role it could play.

'The UK has one of the largest renewable energy resources in Europe, so vast that it could provide all our electricity needs many times over. Despite this resource, successive governments have failed to harness even a tiny fraction of this potential and energy policy continues to be based on outdated and dirty fossil fuels and nuclear energy.

Greenpeace believes the UK can meet all its electricity needs by harnessing just three truly 'clean' renewable technologies: wind, solar and wave.'

The problem with this is as they say, the government not doing anything in support of this factor. Last year they gave a £650,000 loan to keep a struggling nuclear power station alive. This money would have lasted this nuclear power station around about 2 months. That same amount of money could have instead gone to creating several windfarms around the UK. With this money the amount of energy created by the equiptment this money could buy would power around 15% of the UKs yearly power needs. Its an example that shows just how easily the government could reduce our use of polliuting energy sources and make a real enviromental difference.

For more info on all this kind of stuff goto the greenpeace site http://www.greenpeace.org.uk and then to the renewable energy campaign. Give them some support as you must admit, even if you think its hippie shit and no one should be concerned with it, it does make sense!

"Global warming - caused by burning oil, coal and gas - is the biggest environmental problem we face today.

Droughts, floods, storms, melting ice caps, dying coral reefs ... we're already seeing the results. And, if we don’t take drastic action, we will pass the ‘safe’ limits of climate change in just 40 years, allowing our weather to spiral out of control.

But it’s not too late! Greenpeace is leading global efforts to stop oil companies wrecking our planet. We are also developing and promoting clean energy solutions."

TAKE the time to read up on all the info then you maybe less likely to call me a twat for posting this 'hippie' bullshit. Cheers.
