The camchain will never go slack at the front, it is always under tension whether under accelleration or decelleration. The crankshaft pulls the chain down at the front all the time, and even under decelleration (or overrun) the chain is under tension due to the fact that the effort of opening the valve springs is trying to slow down the camshaft at a faster rate than the crankshaft is slowing.
