I agree, that's precisely why dh is doing the doctoral thing. He wants to change the way the teachers are taught to deal with these kids. He wants to stop the abuses.

When he first went into his ED (emotionally disabled) classroom , the kids were a wreck. The years prior to him taking over the class was a teacher that allowed no talking, used dunce caps and signs to humilate the kids. She also mistreated her para-professionals. After 6 months with Dan treating these kids like the human beings that they are, most of the kids could be sent out into regular classrooms for at least part of the day.

Well, I am on my high horse! Deb, I certainly wish you luck with "the system" but until there is a fundamental change in the way these Special ed teachers are taught, it will be an uphill battle.
