Rohkeus, Sitkeys, työinto, koiran koko...... On lukematon määrä asioita, joihin tulee kiinnittää huomiota jalostuksessa ja koiran kasvatuksessa / koulutuksessa. Ei kannata sellaista koiraa tarhassa pitää, joka omaa viettiä ja rohkeutta vaikka karhun kanssa painimiseen, mutta jolta puuttuu sitkeys tehdä työtään vaikka tuntitolkulla, jos on tarvis. Vietti ei välttämättä katoakaan sukupolven aikana ja jos heikkenee, se on tiettyyn pisteeseen asti voimistettavissa oikealla koulutuksella. Kannattaa todella testata koiraa luonnollisissa metsästystilanteissa, jos on siihen mahdollisuus. Putkella haukuttaminenkin antaa tietoa koiran taipumuksista työskentelyyn, mutta lopullisen tuomion saa vasta jahdissa.
