Personally, I think the "so what" of Peck case study is this:

Out of the people around us, the people that are our significant others, the people we want to "preach the gospel to", and our very selves, there are numerous who are in no shape to deal with reconciliation with God yet. Way before they consider issues like our eternal destiny, they have to come to terms with their family of origin and to find peace with themselves. And in this process, even if they are mad at God or struggling with God, they would have to count on God's grace for strength to see it through. Without grace, the only choices are between bullets or blinders.
