Subject: Last Comic Standing

With few new shows on during the summertime, my wife and I decided to finally give "Last Comic Standing" a try. She's more of a fan of stand-up than I am, but I tend to enjoy it if it's good.

However, after investing ourselves in the show for a couple of weeks, I've realized that it is somewhat of a current-day "America's Funniest Home Videos". Or at least, the parallels are amazingly similar.

Both have unfunny hosts with otherwise funny content. But here's the real kicker:

Back when I used to watch AFHM, I remember thinking that a good portion of the video clips was pretty funny, but in the end, the three finalists would turn out to be some of the least funny clips from that episode.

Same thing goes for "Last Comic Standing". The viewers sit through the routines of 20 comics. Most are pretty good. Some aren't funny at all. Then, at the end of the show, the five finalists end up literally being the worst of the bunch. It's truly astounding. It actually IS the five WORST.

And then, the cameras zoom in on the facial reactions of the truly talented comics who weren't picked. And they look completely stunned by who was picked over them, as they have every right to.

I'm just kind of venting here, because I was hoping this show would be one I could actually get caught up in... but no such luck. Now, the rest of the season consists of ten finalists, none of who are funny, living together and trying to out-whit each other with their "comic stylings".

Uh, yeah.
