You're right that hiding Leia by putting her with a prominent family, and then in a position of authority with the Senate was kind of a stupid idea.

But is it any more stupid than hiding Luke by having him run around still using the name Skywalker and putting him with the relatives Anakin briefly knew on Tattoine. I mean, you'd think those might be people Vader would check in on, and you'd think he'd look in on this kid they had, who just so happeneed to be the same age as his own son.

Then again, the Jedi Master who hid him with those folks was living on the same planet without even changing his last name as a disguise.
