I have been reading these reports about Superman as well. Brett Ratner (director of the Rush Hour movies and Red Dragon) was supposed to direct and he bowed out. But by all indications, this guy is a total nightmare to work with, as he is a perfectionist and doesn't like not getting his way.

Kevin Smith wrote a script for this film a few years ago and the idea was for Smith to write and Tim Burton to direct with Nicolas Cage starring. That would be pretty amazing, though Cage would have to wear a wig because Superman has to have a full head of hair, right? Burton pretty much dismissed Smith as bushleague, even though Smith is a comic book aficianado and has forgotten more about Superman than Burton will ever know.

There was a pretty big war or words between the two that even made the New York Times. Smith covers this incident in his DVD "An Evening With Kevin Smith" which is a MUST HAVE!!! Four hours of Smith telling very compelling stories about the entertainment industry. I went to one of these "lectures" at Indiana University and it was simply amazing. Some of my show is featured in the DVD. You've gotta see it.
