I thought it was a pretty good adaptation of the book, but disagree about the domination of Brits not being a bad thing. I thought anybody but a Brit should've played Ford Prefect - somebody like Matthew McConaughey (although he's probably too physically similar to Rockwell) or Hugh Jackman, just somebody with that easygoing, affable sort of character. After all, the guy's an alien, so why's he have a British accent? Even if he has lived there briefly.

The guy who played Arthur Dent was good, Zooey Deschanel was okay but a bit immature for Trillian (and I just looked her up at IMDb and found she was born in 1980 - now I feel old), and Alan Rickman was awesome as Marvin. On that note, I thought that was a nice tact they took with Marvin's physical form, as opposed to making him more humanoid.

As for Sam Rockwell, have always been a huge fan of his and he was perfect as Zaphod, although I didn't like the way they had his two heads structured. As for another American, John Malkovich, but I thought he was typically Malkovich. This guy's lost me since Ripley's Game, which was absolutely awful. I blame all those people camped out in his head.

When we saw the movie, there was appropriate titters and chuckles, because that's the sort of humor the movie (and books) involve. We did have nerds there, too, dressed in bathrobes and all, but no guffaws. Must be the American audiences! No offense, but it's like when I watch Letterman or Oprah or whatever, and audiences clap for everything, which just leaves me shaking my head and asking why.
