Because of the birth of my first son, I really didn't see many movies this year, so don't think I'm too weird over my picks for the best (I just haven't seen that much)

The Best (in order)

The Village - It got mixed reviews, but I thought it was an excellent and fascinating movie.

Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind - A truly unique film with mesmorizing imagry.

The Passion of the Christ - a very powerful and gutsy film.

Man on Fire - a little over the top at times, but a sharply filmed flick with a great performance by Denzel.

13 going on 30 - Finally a chick-flick which doesn't turn my stomach. I thought it was really good.

Open Water - I've got a soft spot for well-done low budget realistic horror films. While not perfect, I enjoyed it.

The Miracle - good family movie about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team

Dawn of the Dead - What can I say... I've got a thing for zombie movies. A good pop-corn film. Not great, but a fun guilty pleasure.

Worst (in no particular order):

Godsend - just not a good movie

Envy - I like Black and Stiller, but this was one of the lamest comedies I'd seen in some time.

The Day After Tommorrow - The stero-typical summer blockbuster action flick which looks spectacular but has a lame storyline.

Movies I wouldn't have seen (and didn't) if you had paid me:

Garfield - Why would this come out TWO DECADES after the comic strip cat stopped being popular?

Walking Tall - Boy, this looked cheesy.

Fahrenheit 911 - If I wanted to watch a fake documentary, I'd just pop my "Blair Witch" DVD in. At least THAT film wouldn't p*ss me off.

The Whole Ten Yards - Ughhh. Why?

White Chicks - Are you kidding me?

Catwoman - Being an avid comic book fan as a kid, I don't remember the character looking like a porn star.

Paparazzi - I thought this was a joke when I saw the commercial.

Shall We dance? - A feature film about a guy who wants to learn how to dance to impress his wife? Sounds like the story of a 1/2 hour sitcom.

Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle - This would have looked dumb to me, even if I was still 16.
