Played very much like a comic-strip, particularly with the acting in the eyes - the shape of the eyes used to portray a certain emotion, etc.

There's a great scene when they're waiting for Peter to come home to join them for Thanksgiving, and they hear something coming from his room. Anyway, after checking, Dafoe hangs back a bit, and his round, saucerous eyes suddenly narrow in anger. It's really cool.

Yep, Rickman was superb in Die Hard. Easy to see why he got the running gig in Harry Potter, (although that seems to be hedging on the bet that his character ultimately becomes evil).
