Subject: Worst sequels...

There's a lot of shockers out there.

Lethal Weapon 3 and Leathal Weapon 4 (especially the latter) are pretty appalling. Actually, even LW2 is pretty bad if you look at it objectively, a film appreciated by its great villains which cover the fact it's essentially a lot of disjointed action scenes strung together, (which is about what you'd expect from screenwriter Jeffrey Boam).

Godfather Part III was just terrible...and redundant. It didn't exactly further the story very much. Andy Garcia, usually a favorite of mine, also barely looks interested throughout the flick. There are times he appears to be on cruise control.

Batman 3 & 4 are terrible, but I'll exempt them as a "serial", as opposed to "sequels." (The difference? The change of starring actors, as with the James Bond flicks, and the intention that they go on forever).

Return of the Jedi was just disastrously bad. The best thing about it were the exchanges between Luke and the Emperor, but instead the movie concentrated on Ewoks.

However, the worst sequel I've ever seen would have to be...

Highlander II: The Quickening.

Or as my friend described it, after seeing it, The Sickening.

How can a sequel depart so drastically from the original story? What's more, how can it do so when it's written by the same guy?

I mean, where do you start with how bad it is?

Like, what do ozone layers and global shields have to do with immortals?

And the immortals are exiles from a planet called Zeist? This was incredible - Hey, you guys are criminals. As punishment, we're sending you to a planet...where you'll be immortal. Jolly bad luck that, isn't it?

Then Connor (Christopher Lambert - another of the stupid laugh brigade) meets Virginia Madsen, fights a couple of aliens on skateboards, and is then making out with Madsen. Wow, that's some pick-up.

The return of the dead Ramirez...and how? Connor says, "Ramirez, I need you!"

On and on this movie goes, getting worse and worse, making it (for me) the worst sequel I've ever seen.
