Subject: Well, here are my thoughts on Moore (I hope I don't offend anyone)

To me, Moore is much more about making money than he is about substance. At one time, I believe he was widely respected as an innovative director. When he first began making documentaries, he tackled issues after doing vast amounts of research, and did a good job of uncovering illegal and immoral activity.

However, somewhere along the way, I believe he fell in love with seeing his name in the media. I think he realized that the more he promotes himself (regardless of how), the more money his projects will make.

Even his films became psuedo-documentaries. Clips from speeches were taken out of context, in hopes of proving his points. If anyone watches David Letterman regularly, you've seen Letterman's "Words of Wisdom from Dr. Phil". If you've never seen it, I'll explain: Different clips are shown of the Dr. Phil show where Phil will make an obscure statement like "I want to be Miss America". It's obviously taken completely out of context. In reality, Phil was probably interviewing a pagent winner and asked her, "At what point in your life did you say to yourself, I want to be Miss America?". The audience obviously knows it's a joke and it's pretty funny stuff. Unfortunately, Moore has been known to use this same technique, but doesn't let the viewer in on the joke.

His recent books have even alienated some of his die-hard fans, with some of the ridiculous acquisations he throws at the Bush administration. Whether or not you approve of Bush, the man is not secretly "buddies" with the Bin Laden family as Moore actually suggests. My belief is that Moore will say basically anything if he thinks it will generate a few extra book sales or DVD rentals. The Oscars was a good example. I even question whether or not he believes everything he says anymore, or just wants to get ar rise out of people.
