haven't seen his other movies (other than the sixth sense, which was decent) but i thought signs started out superbly. i mean i was really excited about the first 30-40 minutes. thought we had a serious talent on our hands. thought the sequence when the family went into town was superbly handled. might seem an innocuous sequence but it was very, very well crafted.

obviously the rest of the film was fairly average, though certain scenes in the cornfields were genuinely scary. & mel can still pull off that intensely emotional face.
