Clay Pigeons with Vince Vaughn & Janeane Garofelo. The scene where his ex shoots his new girlfriend and his reaction to it is awesome. He backs her up against the wall and starts slamming his fist into the wall, daring himself to punch her. It's a very tense scene.

I must say I have reservations of him playing Johnny Cash in an upcoming biopic. I'm a huge Cash fan and I just can't picture Phoenix playing The Man in Black. I also can't picture Reese Witherspoon playing June Carter Cash. Should be interesting.
