Date Posted: Sat, Sep 12 2009, 16:01:37 In reply to: Mike Schmitt 's message, "Can't wait to meet Butch Huber" on Sat, Sep 12 2009, 14:30:22 Mike, it will be nice to meet you as well. As far as the board members of Willoughby Station, I bet one or two people came up with the great idea to remove the basketball nets, backboards, and poles, and the rest followed suit. It is probable that none of the board members are basketball players, and it is safe to say that none of them really thought through how their actions would be perceived by the members before they acted on their decision, and although I think it was a brazen act on their part to remove the basketball court, I think they need to have a chance to apologize and set things right. Regardless of whether they apologize or not, I still believe that the covenants and by-laws need to be radically changed to protect us better and to limit the power of the board. What we are dealing with here is probably caused by years of most of us ignoring the meetings and letting people who are on the board do essentially whatever they want. It is time for all of that to change. It is time for us to have a method of internet interaction with the board and we need to be able to vote on matters on-line. There really wouldn't be anything wrong with holding our meetings at city hall and putting them on Channel 3 so everyone can watch them and so that they are properly recorded. I am rather certain that the city would oblige, especially since two of the five members live in Willoughby Station and Ed Hagerty uses, or has used, our swimming pool. And hey, if they won't let us use the facility all we need to do is offer to let the city employees and the rest of the commission use our facilities and they will gladly let us in (Just kidding....sort of). We need to adopt Robert's Rules of Order as a guide for our meetings, we need to delineate exactly what the homeowners association board of directors can do and make Dillon's Rule a stated part of our By-laws so that future boards of directors can easily be held accountable if they step over the line. I am going to do what I can to make this meeting, however, I am not going in looking for heads to roll, I am hoping that the board will humble itself and recognize that they have made a mistake and ask us to forgive them. I am hoping that they will agree to put the basketball nets and backboards back up and I am hoping that they will listen. In absence of those things, I believe as you do it will be time to elect a new board and make these changes to the Covenants and by-laws. If they are willing to recognize that they need to make the changes to the covenants and by-laws, and they take positive steps to make such changes, there is no need to replace them. People make mistakes, and often stick to their guns after they make them out of stubborn pride, even when they know they are wrong, let's hope that isn't the case here. I have no ax to grind with them, I just want to set things right. [ Next Thread | Previous Thread | Next Message | Previous Message ] |
