Date Posted: Sun, Mar 15 2009, 10:34:32 Many of you other than Terry B might be curious as to the who what when and where of what the city "leadership" has stated about me. Here it is, and as always, my number is available and unlike others, I answer my phone. I was approached by some people who told me that a female building inspector who works for the city had been assaulted and that the incident had been covered up. This bothered me, as it should you. I asked if I should look into it, and in the course of looking into the assault, found so many problems that it would blow your mind. When I asked for public records, I was taken into the conference room and interrogated by the ciy manager and the previous city attorney. I paid for every record I asked for, and still have the receipts to prove that. In fact, I have records to prove everything that I say. First, the woman who was assaulted reported the assault immediately to her supervisor. According to the former city manager, the public works director at that time placed a letter of reprimand in that supervisor's file because he did not report the assault up the chain. In fairness, he said he did not actually see the letter placed in the file, because if there were to be an appeal to have the letter removed, the appeal would be made to him and he had to remain impartial. I asked for a copy of that letter from the city and was told that it does not exist. In case you have forgotten, I went to a city commission meeting and spoke on this subject, and Ray Justice said during his commissioner comments that he had personal knowledge of the assault. Linda Elam quickly interupted and asked him not to speak about it. It happened. Not only did it happen, but the city also gave her fake work comp claim numbers to use at the doctor. While asking for public records on that incident, I found a memo outlining the issues with the fire codes being overlooked. I went to the current city manager with the fire codes problems and he sent me to the public works director, and then the three of us met. At that meeting, I gave them specific addresses of some of the homes in question. Two weeks later, the current director of public works replied to an email I had sent and stated that the issue appeared to be a difference of opinion, and that they had conducted site visits and found no violations. I knew better, and when contacted by the media, I told them what I knew. For the record, a builder contacted the media about the issues, not me. I knew that the issue was not a difference of opinion, and had gone to some of the homes in question and saw the problem for myself. The current city manager tried to spin the issue, and even said that the homes we took them to were not the same as the homes on the list I gave them. What he should have realized is that the list was only a starting point, and we went to the neighborhood and if someone was home, we asked to see if it was up to code. It wasn't hard to find them, in that almost all of the homes we looked at were wrong, inluding the homes on the list I gave them. When the story aired on the news, the city had a meeting the same night within a few minutes. Sellars made the statement "They have reason to be worried" and one of the local papers ran that on the cover. At the next meeting, he demanded an apology and front page retraction, because he had asked others if he had made that statement and that he had reviewed the tape of the meeting. If he had reviewed the tape, wouldn't he have noticed that several minutes of the meeting, specifically the portion where he made the statement during his comments were missing from the tape? I had tivo'd the meeting and supplied the paper with what the city could not, which is the portion where Sellars did make that statement. The paper used it out of context, but he did make the statement. So obviously the "leadership" of the city has it out for me, but that's not the only reason. When they had a meeting at Henry Horton state park to keep YOU from being there, I went. When they had a closed secret meeting and kicked everyone out of the room on the second day, I left. That can only be done if you are talking about pending litigation with the attorney, and the attorney had left on day one. When they complained about the grass at the old MJ Elementary site, I went and cut the grass. Not once, but twice. I asked for help from a couple of people, and one of the guys running for city commissioner helped by using a weed eater in places where the tractor would not go. He paid for the gas once, and my brother paid for the gas the other time. Why? Simply put, it needed to be done, and people had said something to me about it before and after the paper ran the article. When the Hickory Hills HOA was supposed to meet with the developer who was trying to rezone the front of the neighborhood to commercial, I was the one who got the phone calls telling me that Sellars had placed the rezoning issue on the agenda before the HOA had a chance to meet with the developer. They also told me that Sellars had contacted the HOA attorney and asked him to convince the HOA to put it on the agenda. Who was he representing? When the YMCA was a hot topic, and Summit Hospital became a player in the property, I was the one who informed the paper that Elam was on the board at Summit. The city could not afford the property, and the county could not afford to sell it for almost half of the value. I also spoke out at the county meeting in favor of having the property appraised and the vote was 24-0 in favor of that resolution. A few issues with Summit going in at that site are that the state would ahve to issue a certificate of need, and Bredeson doesn't let that happen. When was the last time you saw a hospital on 4 acres which is what they would have gotten? There would not have been a hospital, or an ER. There would have been a set of offices for outpatient at best, and if the city had of bought the property and leased it to Summit, no property tax would have been generated. I resigned from my job, a job that I truly enjoyed, because after I had tried to hold their feet to the fire on issues, they came after me. You know about some, but does anyone know that they tried to charge me with criminal tresspass because I knew which homes that were under construction were not up to code? Simply put, the city called my employer every day, several times a day, and at some point, it was better to go into the private sector where they can't touch me, and that is what I did. I have not tried to fight the charges against me in the media. How could I when one of the editors calls the mayor during the meeting to ask what the last vote was because she missed it? The papers insisted on using the word illegal, and there were no laws broken. And for the record, I never ran a tag on a city vehicle, but of course the city "leadership" used that as spin to try and discredit me. The guy who was parking in the neighbors driveway watching my wife put our two year old in the car seat, well, he doesn't drive by anymore. So, why did this happen? Because I stood up for people that I didn't even know. Guess what? I will continue to stand up and have absolutely no plan to resign. If anything, I will take what I know directly to the Grand Jury if that needs to be done. Don't forget, this is a city "leadership" who has gone after me in a manner to try and destroy my credability, but did not prosecute a man who stole $25,000 of city funds. This doesn't include everything, but this post has to end at some point.
