PRENTICE ANNOUNCES SUPPORT FROM OVER 100 AUTOMATIC DELEGATES ALREADY

P.C. leadership contender builds momentum toward convention

OTTAWA - May 7, 2003 - P.C. leadership contender Jim Prentice today announced that he has already secured the support of more than 100 automatic delegates to the May 29-31 Progressive Conservative leadership convention.

Automatic delegates are the party's riding presidents, candidates from the 2000 election, former and current MPs and Senators, provincial MLA/MPP/MHAs, members of various governing councils, and other senior officials.

"These people are often opinion leaders in the party, and their support means a great deal to me," said Prentice. "They are the people who put their names on the line for the party, who devote thousands of hours of unpaid labour in support of the party, and who understand very fundamentally what it will take to prepare the party to win an election. Their confidence in me is extremely encouraging."

Following is the first wave of Prentice automatic delegates who have agreed to have their names released publicly. More have pledged their support but asked not to be named to the media for a variety of reasons.

P.C. Headquarters reports that 385 automatic delegates have registered so far.
