This point cannot come too soon. A leadership campaign, even when staffed largely by volunteer party activists, is an expensive affair. Canada is a large country, after all. Communicating with party members and delegates has its costs. The convention itself is a costly affair. Past leadership campaigns have taught us how costly these efforts can be. The premise: The PC Party can not and should not take on any debt from the winning leadership campaign, or any campaign team. Do you agree? The trick question: ask of each campaign if they are running a deficit free campaign. Ask them if they will commit to ensuring that no campaign debt will hit the PC Party books. Points to consider: satisfy yourself that, when given answers, that the respondents won't attempt "back door" methods of passing leadership campaign debt off on the backs of the party.
