Massive debt is one factor that has held the party back; today we are nearing the point where the current debt will be a thing of the past. This point cannot come too soon.

A leadership campaign, even when staffed largely by volunteer party activists, is an expensive affair. Canada is a large country, after all. Communicating with party members and delegates has its costs. The convention itself is a costly affair.

Past leadership campaigns have taught us how costly these efforts can be.

The premise: The PC Party can not and should not take on any debt from the winning leadership campaign, or any campaign team. Do you agree?

The trick question: ask of each campaign if they are running a deficit free campaign. Ask them if they will commit to ensuring that no campaign debt will hit the PC Party books.

Points to consider: satisfy yourself that, when given answers, that the respondents won't attempt "back door" methods of passing leadership campaign debt off on the backs of the party.

Our party doesn't need the status quo, and it certainly can't tolerate sinking deeper into debt.
