I don't think *you* get it, Roger.

Free Trade. GATT. WTO. it doesn't matter what the trading mechanism is, there will always be interest groups - ON BOTH SIDES OF THE BORDER - who want their own way.

It just happens, as Canada's biggest customer, that the US and its lobbyists will make more noise than our special interest groups. Ask anyone - even farmers - who has the most influence over producers and manufacturers -- why its the largest customers, naturally.

The bottom line: The problem is not specific to a given trading agreement; its one of relationships.

Canada can't bargin in good faith with someone that doens't want to. Canada can't get someone to want to bargin in good faith while you call their leader a moron and their country evil. This simple lesson seems lost on the government.

And you know what - in the article you quote, Mr. Brown is more or less agreeing with me on this.

Canada has to deal straight; speak politely yet clear and firm.

The current crop of politicians can't do it. This liberal government needs to be replaced, and we are just the people to do it.

Canadians need to get back on their game again, and get back to aspiring to be what we can be. Along the way we will have many respectful disagreements with the US, and more than a few agreements. But we won't move anything important forward in a climate of condescension, hate or fear.

It will be done through strength and respect.

I honestly don't believe Mr. Orchard is able to do that. He would instill a climate of fear in our people in order to some how bring Canadians to his side. But that won't work.
