Subject: Jesse Chauhan on Newsworld

To: beeh@jet2.net,JoeClark@pcparty.ca

Dear Messrs. Easton and Clark,

I have sent the following letter to the Party's Communications Officers, but felt that I should send it to you as well:

Dear PC Party Communications Officers, I have just watched the McKay - Orchard debate on Newsworld and heard the comments of a panel including Jesse Chauhan, who was represented as speaking for the PC Party.

I was appalled to hear Ms. Chauhan refer to David Orchard as representing special interests and to hear her derogate his strong showing to date by sneeringly remarking that only 15 DSM's have been held to date.

I must object in the strongest possible terms to a declared representative of the party publicly denigrating any of the party's leadership candidates. I trust that Ms. Chauhan will be issuing a public apology to Mr. Orchard and to the Party, and that she will not be speaking for the party again during the leadership campaign.

Quite apart from the total inappropriateness of her remarks, I think it strange that Ms. Chauhan characterized Mr. Orchard's view that international law must prevail over slavish obedience to the US policy as being "special interest."

The polls consistently show that Mr. Orchard's views on Iraq are shared by a large majority of Canadians, and that it is Mr. McKay who speaks for an extreme right wing minority. The term "special interest" is being used these days by bullying politicians and other people who prefer insults to ideas to demean anyone with whom they disagree.

It has no place in reasoned discourse, especially when referring to a person who is clearly stating the majority view.

Sincerely, Caspar Davis

President, Victoria Riding Association
