In reply to: STEVE CORRIE per jfh 's message, "MACKAY CAMPAIGN LAUNCHES STOP-ORCHARD DRIVE" on 13:35:31 03/16/03 Sun

I read Steve's message with interest. Yes, often in the spirit of competition individuals can get carried away. Yes, in working for the Jim Prentice campaign I have spoken with party members who have been accused of being traitors to the party and to the country for supporting Jim and not Peter.....because apparently in supporting Jim our members are allowing David Orchard to win.

David Orchard and his supporters have signed up members, they are getting out the vote because they know that this is what brings results. If we in other camps do not understand the system of victory, we all deserve to lose. To the victor will go the spoils.

I am supporting Jim Prentice because of his policies - especially on sovereignty, life strategy and because he is a fiscal conservative who not only talks the talk - he walks the walk. Jim's honesty and integrity is above reproach. Combine that with his fiscal policies, we definitely would not see money thrown in all directions (especially to friends) as we see in the current regime.

Jim also believes in the "big tent". We need to attract Canadians from all walks of life and from all ethnic groups. To do that we must expect that there will be diverse interests and beliefs.

I have been involved in the P.C. party for many, many years and at all times the party membership has been diverse - from extreme right to extreme left. Fortunately, the majority of members were somewhere in between. That will continue to be thus regardless of who wins the leadership. I only pray that the rest of the electorate will be attracted to our new leader and give us a strong mandate in the forthcoming elections. That, my fellow Conservatives, is the true name of the game.
