Initially there was at least an implication that Iraq was linked to terrorism. When that link couldn't be made, it was possession of weapons of mass destruction. When that case coulnd't be made, it was lack of cooperation. Right now, it's down to "you wont let us talk to your scientists" as the reasons for going to war. And "we know what the iraqis have, but we can't tell you."
One argument against Iraq is that saddam hussein attempted several times to launch a terrorist attack against the US during the gulf war... but this fails as a reason, because if Iraq's attacks of U.S. targets in the gulf during an officially declared "war" counts as terrorism, what should we call the U.S. attacks of Iraqi civilians in the official war? The U.S. led bombing campaign has destroyed all water supplies, sewage facilities, and other civilian infrastructure, which has directly and indirectly caused the deaths of over 500,000 Iraqi children who have died from among other things, diseases from polluted water.
Another argument in the march to war used by Americans, recently by Colin Powell at the Un, was that Iraq was harboring a terrorist cell led by someone suspected to be in al qaeda, who was also a chemical and biological weapons specialist. However, this is a weak argument if we remember that the alleged al qaeda member was in northern Iraq, in the automonous region controlled by anti-Saddam Kurds that Saddam has no control of, thanks to the rigorous enforcement of the no-fly-zones.
Does iraq have ties with al qaeda? "the hatred of america must have driven the 2 closer together." This rationale seems to be the Bush Administration's last attempt at convincing the US public that a 1.7 trillion dollar war would be worth it. It is based in no fact whatsover-- and if anything the facts suggest otherwise-- Osama has publicly on many occasions dismissed Saddam as a corrupt ruler beholden to the West. If Saddam gave Osama a nuke, chances are he would use it against Saddam.
Saddam has helped a separatist group fighting the turkish government..*GASP* Yes a separatist group that the turkish government has oppressed, tortured, murdered etc. If people fighting for their basic rights of speaking their own native Kurdish language and independence from an oppressive Turkish government with a horrible human rights record counts as terrorism, then the American revolutionaries should have been terrorists as well.
There is way more but I don't feel like it. After this, my outlet for my rage.. which makes me want to throw up all over myself and elect rudolph the reindeer as next president. I have come to the decision we should muster a plan to get osama and bush in bed together, and stab him in the face with a dart.
