If we use the world ‘fascism’ not as a common insult ( like the word ‘bitch’ for example. But I recently found out that ‘bitch’ is just a female dog, one of the kindest creatures in the world. At least my dictionary says so) but in more narrow political meaning we can say “Fascism is national-socialism, that is a kind of socialism using nationalism as its official ideology. “ It also has some kind of Great Leader ( Fuhrer) so it’s mostly a dictatorship.
Does America meet these conditions?
America is a socialist country in many ways. She has such socialistic attributes as some nationalized industries, support of family, the political police ( FBI, CIA, EPA etc), compulsory public education, social security, price control, cartelised political structure ( though to be accurate two-party system is not one-party system but I don’t think the difference is huge especially if both parties are socialist ones), racial quotas in colleges, government-funded health-care, strict government’s control over private businesses ( over banks especially) and other stuff typical for Hitler’s Germany. ( You must admit however that it is not American exclusive features. European countries have the same and even more, like, for example, Nazi’s policy of disarming citizens).
However America doesn’t meet two other conditions. American official ideology is not nationalism but some foggy mixture of patriotism, multiculturalism, free market, socialism, environmentalism, geopolitics so on. ( if you take a risk to name this mess ’ideology’). And then, America is not a dictatorship. She is a democracy. Of course, democracy in no way is better than dictatorship but technically it’s not the same.
