Subject: presidential whatever's.

i have nowhere else to go, now, to ask this question. so i'll ask it here. or well, pose my predicament and then ask the question. roundabout-like.

i was going to probably wind up voting for gephart (sp? haha) for the presidental whatever's. and he's dropped out? uh why? so then there's dean, except i think he's a tad bit insane. i don't get to watch the news much due to school-and-things, but the snippet i saw he was jumping and a-hooting and a-hollaring. on the other hand, having an insane president who appears to be on crack, and is at least a democrat (which means he might support gay marriages [i actually heard he DOES] and actually like us poor people), might be refreshing.

thoughts? i admit usually i don't vote. i can never really distinguish the actual candidate qualities through all the fucking mudslinging they do. but i'm going to be re-registering for this township (i am registered in city of m******, which means i CAN vote, i just have to drive far to do so), and have to do the whole party picking.

when i was 18 i bitched that i wanted to register socialist but that option was not on the form. uhm. and i've read about the green party from a good friend, and that seems very interesting, but i'd like to find more info. but .. i don't remember seeing these options when i registered eons ago, so chances are i'll have to register democrat.

so what do you all think of the candidates? where exactly does one GO to find out what they are actually ADVOCATING and supporting, since all the ads i ever see is "blah so and so is a fuckwad who hates you but wants your money" or "blah blah so and so just wants to let all you poor gay people rot with no healthcare and no way to profess your love for your partner legally." it gets a little hard to even WANT to vote--and admittedly i'm one of those "my vote doesn't matter" people, because half the time the people get into office then don't do what the fuck they said they were going to, anyways.

thanks.

The primaries will do the weeding out and in the end you will have a choice between Bush and whoever the Democrats put up.

The next vote is in the New Hampshire Primary, which will eliminate at least 1 or 2 more unless there are some real surprises. Dean, Kerry, and Edwards are the front runners right now. If you can wait til after the H.H. vote you may only have to read up on 1 or 2 candidates. If not concentrate on these top 3.

You still have time to make up your mind as to who you vote for in your primary. If you have one. Unless it's N.H.
DO NOT mention on the board whether or not your state has a primary, or caucus, etc. At least not under the present conditions that seem to exist on these boards.

Read up as much as possible on the front runners. That would be Dean and Kerry and Edwards at the present.
Go to their websites and read their platforms.
Listen to their speeches or at least try to read what they say while campaigning. Choose the one that best supports your views.

As to why Gephardt dropped out? He did poorly in the Iowa caucus and figures he won't get the nomination.

No one can tell you how to vote. It's your decision. In the end though I know I will vote for whoever runs against Bush. But that is my opinion and my choice.
Hope this helps a little. Good luck!

Welcome girl liminal!

Apart from Socks, any of the Democrat candidates would be better than Bush, except Lieberman that is. He'd probably invite Bush for VP, or Lynn Cheney.

I have a bunch of bookmarks on my old computer which I haven't yet transferred to the new one. Give me a day or two and I'll post them for you.

i am STILL giggling at that! another one that got me in laugh fits today was a friend from canada stating, "your politics are more interesting. you have inter-party wars. all we have is the war of the east, west, french, and pot." i died.

thanks for the welcome, and also pre-thanks for the links! i've collected a bunch today, to read during homework/clinical downtimes.

also, surfer--thanks for all your input as well. i didn't even think about how primaries narrow things down, silly me. i will definitely be voting this time around though, no mistake about that. :)

I didn't forget that I wanted to post some links for you. I already have my old favorites on my new computer, but there was a lot of unexpected stuff that got in the way. I'll try to post the links in the evening.

I took the test on http://www.presidentmatch.com/Main.jsp2?cp=main
Mein liber Gott!!!
I found that my ideal presidents would be Bush and Kuchinich . If there are real idiots beyond the Capitol Hill they are concentrated on that site.
I actually count all candidates for shit but Dean would be less evil. In no way Bush and Kuchinich.
Good thing it wasn’t a dating service…
