In 1941 Field Marshall Keitel referred to the Geneva Convention as "obsolete", in dealing with Soviet troops during WWII.
That statement was used against him at Nuremberg during his trial for WAR CRIMES.
He was found guilty and HANGED in 1946.
In 2003 President Bush's general counsel, attorney Alberto R. Gonzales who is currently Bush's candidate for Attorney General the highest law enforcement office in the United States, issued a memo stating his legal opinion that the Geneva Convention was "obsolete" in dealing with detainees captured by the United States who are arbitrarily classified as other then Prisoner's of War. In addition he further stated that perhaps the President of the United States as Commander in Chief was not bound by International Law and Treaties nor U.S. law on Torture.
Well after those opinions were issued and before they became public knowledge the world became aware of the TORTURE of detainees held by the United States in Cuba, Afghanistan and Iraq!!
Only after the scandal was made public has the administration declared that it was caused by just a few "bad apples" and that the administration is categorically against TORTURE of any kind!
YET
Bush's candidate for Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and his pick for Attorney General Alberto Gonzalez refuse to define Torture to Senators during hearings prior to their Senate confirmation attempting to leave tremendous leeway as to what is 'rough treatment' vs. 'torture.
Just another example of the
MORAL HYPOCRISY
of the CHRISTIAN EXTREMISTS WHO ARE TAKING OVER THE GOVERNMENT OF THE UNITED STATES.
As for President Bush - not his fault - After All GOD told him to do it!!!
