Subject: RE: Beautiful Music

I share the sentiments of many who wish to hear more of the traditional easy listening music in radio formats and elsewhere. There just doesn't seem to be much support for it anymore (listening or financial that I know about). It seems to me that if one is not willing to create and release music that is popular by "today's standards", they are basically swimming upstream. Simply put, it doesn't seem to me that music publishers and record labels will bother releasing music that doesn't sound like anything at the top of the charts or in the top 40 anymore. That's just how the music business operates today in my estimation. And from my own personal experience as an independent composer, you really can't blame them. There are not too many people who will invest thousands of dollars into a project to end up falling on their face.

As a matter of fact, I don't think any song was ever considered to be popular just because it sounded good. That may have been part of the equation, but not the total reason for its popularity. My guess is that songs were always considered popular based on the amount of sales and income they generated.

And the reason that we will keep hearing the same ole stuff all the time year end and year out by different artists (independent and major) is simply because it SELLS. That's not bad in and of itself, that's just business. And if there isn't much financial support for an indy music release where one attempts to modernize a past music style such as I have done, believe me you probably won't be hearing much music if any from those artists/composers in the future.

I didn't mean to get too longwinded with this discussion. I was fortunate enough to get my songs on some of the major digital music download services. It's only a matter of time to see how the financial support goes for that. My answer to those who want to hear something different in the music world: get out the old cassettes, vinyl records and cd's and listen to them (1900's). It really doesn't get any better (relative to being touched and able to relate to the song).
