BART signs on to TransLink program

The Associated Press

Oakland --
Bay Area Rapid Transit directors have agreed to join the TransLink system, which will provide a single "smart" ticket to allow access to all Bay Area transit systems.

The agreement yesterday between BART and the Metropolitan Transportation Commission means the region's six largest transit agencies are on board in support of the program.

Golden Gate Transit and San Francisco's Municipal Railway or A-C Transit will be equipped for the service within a year. BART is scheduled to outfit its fare gates within 18 months. Caltrain, SamTrans and the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority are expected to join in two years.
